Detail Itinerary
- A short drive of about two hours after breakfast, in the meandering hilly roads of western Nepal, you will meet up with the trekking crew at Lumle and commence the trek through the meadows and beautifully terraced cropping fields. On crossing a bridge, you will reach a large village bazaar by the name of Birethani, by the confluence of Bhurungdi River and the Modi River. After the Annapurna Conservation Area Project entry registration, you will continue the trek towards a gentle climb, which is rather easy to follow.Crossing the two bridges over the Bhurungdi River, the trail slowly passes a few lodges. After one more hour, you will reach Hille, and then reach Tirkhedhunga after a mere fifteen more minutes. The day comes to an end at Tirkhedhunga, where the team will stay the night.
- The second day begins with a short stroll along the mildly graded trail across a suspension bridge at Tirkhedhunga, where you may actually be slowed down and even halted by more than 3000 stone steps on your way to reach the next destination, Ulleri. Breathtaking views, including the beautifully slate-roofed Magar village awaits you at Ulleri. Magars are of Tibeto-Burman origin and are very skilled craftsmen in stone and wood works. Another magnificent view of Annapurna South and Himchuli, as well as Bhurungdi Valley below, awaits your arrival at Ulleri. Walking and climbing the less steep terrain beyond Ulleri for an hour leads you to Banthanti. Banthani has a few tourist lodges, which gives way to the beautiful forest full of varieties of Rhododendrons, most spectacular during March and April, after the last of the lodges. Gradual ascent for a further two hours leads to Ghorepani, a beautiful village inhabiteb by Magars and surrounded by Rhododendron forests.
- Starting the morning with a quick hike uphill to Poon Hill, the Himalayan sunrise sets to mesmerise your memories. Starting at 5:00 hrs in the morning, you can hear the sounds of other trekking groups preparing for the pre-dawn assault on Poon Hill. Carefully walking on the possible slippery surfaces in the dark, an hour is all it takes to reach the top of Poon Hill. With the oranges and reds off the sun’s rays striking the beautifully standing crest of the wide Himalayan panorama stretching from Dhaulagiri 8167 m (the world's seventh highest peak) to Manaslu 8156 m (the world's eighth highest peak) in the east, with the mighty Annapurna range in between them, the early wakeup and an hour long climb certainly pays off all efforts. The team then descends to Ghorepani for breakfast and the trip extends towards Tadapani. The trek passing through a beautiful Rhododendron forest in a rolling terrain, the team halts at Tadapani after about four hours of continuous walk, and stays for the night.
- Day four begins after leaving Tadapani, and after a short stroll, the trail veers to the north and comes out into a small clearing before dropping steeply through the rhododendrons. After another clearing you follow a wall, and walk through a stile to reach Chisapani. The trail then drops steeply to Chiukle, where a few lodges are located. A maze of small paths leads the way down through the terraced fields, into a big suspension bridge over the Kimrong Khola. Passing a school after crossing the bridge at Kimrong Khola, the trail reaches small village of Klisigo Chiukle. Following your way is a series of waterfalls, which leads you to the main Ghandrung-Chomrong route after gentle climbs and contouring along the terraces en route.
- Descending to the suspension bridge over Chomrong Khola from Chomrong village, follow the steep path along the wide trail upto Sinuwa. At Sinuwa, the trail narrows surprisingly and is beautifully enveloped along both sides by mixed rhododendron forest, which by the richness in its colour, presents vibrant views during March and April. Kuldigar is four hours away after the trek started from Chomrong, and Bamboo is steeply downhill for 30 minutes. Soon after you enter into the damp bamboo forest, from which a collection of lodges take their names, the trail climbs steadily across the Bamboo Khola and numerous other streams need to be crossed until eventually it reaches three lodges in a forest clearing to Dovan after an hour and 30 minutes. The next stretch of the forest from Dovan to Himalaya Hotel is the sacred home of Panchhi Baraha, a deity. The shrine of Panchhi Baraha is situated 30 minutes away from Dovan, which is neighboured by the view of a beautiful waterfall. The trail proceeds steeply upwards after passing Modi Khola, to finally reach Himalaya Hotel, and the day ends here.
- An hour from the Himalaya hotel stands the huge rock that has formed the Hinku Cave, which is a serene locale to rest. Deurali is just 30 minutes from Hinku Cave, the area betwwn this duration is unmistakably an avalanche-prone area, with large boulders and low scrubs with no trees. The gully is also prone to avalanches, which thunders through the deep gash on the mountainside. The absence of avalanche debris is rare in this area. After Deurali the trail crosses several streams, all of which experience avalanches. You now enter the sanctuary itself and cross a small stream on a wooden bridge to a junction, where few lodges are located.
- The Base camp is located in the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), which marks the protection of the flora and fauna in the area. Home to numerous indigenous settlers, the ACAP is a coniferous forest with Rhododendron patches all over the area, and is home to wild animals like pika, blue sheep, snow leopards, tigers and Himalayan thar. Multiplicity of birds including multi –coloured Impheyan, koklas and blood pheasants are also found in the area, which boasts its natural beauty. The path uphill isn’t particularly steep, and offers a gentle uphill stroll along the river, through the tranquil meadows with many boulders to rest upon and gaze in awe at the surrounding peaks. The panorama visible from this point includes Annapurna-I above the rubble covered glacier, while to the south is Himchuli and the Annapurna south loom behind. The view of Machhapuchre (Mt. Fishtail) is magnificent and even Annapurna III can be seen from this area. Climbing the moraine with a few rocks to the south presents Gangapurna. You can rest here and enjoy the enchanting views of the Annapurna Range. The day ends with a trek back on the same way, to the Himalaya Hotel.
- This trip consists of the descending trek, back to Chomrong via the same route as previously ascended and takes about five hours.
- The trek consists of following the main trail of Upper Chomrong to Summit View at Daulu. 45 minutes downhill along a steeply descending path is Jhinu Danda, dotted with teahouses. Continuing the descent, cross the bridge over Khumrong Khola and reach New Bridge after an hour. The trek continues with a brief drop along a set of lodges to come across a large suspension bridge over Modi Khola. Passing through magnificently terraced ricefields, the trail to Landrung continues through the trees along the river before gaining height. After crossing a small suspension bridge take the stone steps to climb through the first few lodges to Landrung. Between Landrung and the pass, Bichowk Deurali, the trail winds around two sides of valley and climbs 550 m, finally reaching Tolka. The route from Tolka continues in a fair grade, to finally encounter a steep climb through the trees to Bichowk Deurali, after passing the remains of the old suspension bridge at Bheri Kharka. The Dhaulagiri and the mesmerizing views of the Rhododendron forest is on offer from Bichowk Deurali. Follow the partly paved trail to a gentle descent to Pothana, where you will stop for the night.
- A two-hour trek from Pothana through the beautiful hilly landscape takes you to Dhampus, and then drive for two more hours to reach Pokhara.
